As you probably know, Stephen Silas is one of the smartest coaches in the NBA! He is an Ivy League grad (Brown Univ.) who has worked his way up through the NBA ranks as he has been a scout, served in the video room, an assistant coach with several teams (including a few stints as an assistant coach to his legendary father, Paul Silas), and has just completed his first season as a head coach in the NBA with the Houston Rockets. His presentation was all encompassing as he discusses the importance of relationships, how working for several different head coaches has expanded his learning, his offensive philosophy, allowing players to play to their strengths, and the work it takes to actually get opportunities to continue to climb the ranks in the coaching profession. He covers several key topics including controlling the controllables and handling adversity. He has faced his fair share himself... he's been fired as an assistant coach, and just after being named the head coach of the Rockets his two best players James Harden and Russell Westbrook were both traded within the first month. It's truly a remarkable journey filled with lessons for all coaches and aspiring coaches. There was plenty of basketball taught by Coach Silas as well... He did a phenomenal job teaching the "5-Out Offense" that he ran the last few years in Dallas with NBA superstar Luka Doncic.
